How to test webcam quality before a call
A camera can advertise 1080p while the browser receives a smaller frame or presents fewer frames than requested. The settings panel shows the track that actually arrived. The stability check uses presented video frames, so a busy camera, driver, USB connection, or computer can show up as low FPS, uneven frame time, or gaps.
The image scan is a practical setup check. Very dark areas hide facial detail, blown highlights erase it, and low edge detail can point to missed focus, a dirty lens, digital enlargement, or too little light. Brightness variation can expose flicker or auto-exposure hunting. These are browser estimates, not lab measurements.
Make a useful before-and-after
Capture the first frame, move a lamp in front of you or raise the camera to eye level, then capture the second. Save the comparison through the phone share sheet or a regular download. The video itself is never uploaded.
