How to test speakers and headphones safely

Start with page and system volume low. Check left, center, and right before a sweep. A missing channel can come from a loose cable, Bluetooth profile, operating-system balance setting, mono-audio accessibility setting, amplifier input, or the speaker itself.

Sweeps and single tones reveal obvious buzzes or dropouts, but perceived loudness naturally changes with hearing, room position, and the speaker's response. A browser cannot measure acoustic frequency response without a calibrated microphone.

In phase versus out of phase

Two room speakers wired in phase usually create a focused center image. Reversed polarity on one side can thin the bass and blur the center. Do not use the result as a hearing test; stop immediately if any sound feels uncomfortable.
