Field note

Check the whole mouse before replacing it

Use the navy pad to test left, middle, right, Back, and Forward buttons. Every press updates its own count and timing gap. Some browsers or operating systems reserve side buttons, so a missing Back or Forward event can be software behavior as well as hardware trouble.

Mouse double-click and switch bounce test

Two presses 80–500 milliseconds apart count as a normal double click. A pair at or below 80 milliseconds gets a possible-bounce flag because worn switches can fire twice almost instantly. Repeat 20–30 slow single clicks before deciding the mouse is faulty.

Scroll wheel and polling rate test

Roll slowly in one direction and watch for an unexpected opposite event. The polling estimate uses recent pointer-event gaps. Browser event merging means the number can be lower than the USB hardware rate, especially with high-rate gaming mice.

CPS and drag hold test

The left-click speed test starts on the first pad click. The drag track checks whether the primary button stays held across a long movement. Save / share exports all button counts, timing flags, wheel totals, polling estimates, CPS, and drag results as a text file for phone or desktop.
